Engagement Location - Sunset Cliffs, San Diego, CA
I absolutely love going to new places to shoot. 21 years of capturing couples can lend to a lot of repeats. In actuality I had recently shot an event along this strip of beach, but that was a wedding. The interesting part of shooting at such a popular sunset location is the enormous amount of others who are there. What surprised me most is that I did not see a single other photographer on this day. Maybe it was the weather or the fact it was the day after Christmas, either way, it was simply beautiful.
We didn't have much time before losing the sun. I had shot another event earlier and gave myself 3 hours to get to this shoot. From the Pasadena Langham Hotel to Sunset Cliffs was supposed to take 2 hours. I gave myself 3 hours and it took 4 hours to get there. Luckily, these two were ready and really did not need much in the way of direction. With gray overcast skies, I knew this was going to be a long edit. In the end it wasn't that bad as the sun kept peeking through the clouds just at the right moments.
The red dress just made every image pop. I have always thought that shoots like this need a bold color. Florals and heavy patterns in either of the couple can be a distraction.
From time to time there were no less than 10-15 people wandering into the background. But by this point most had walked away leaving a great background. We shot a lot of the session here.
I could not pass up letting Gracie to show off this ring. Isaac has no idea what I have her doing. He is just laughing because he knows I am doing something. And right on cue, the sun came out.
After the sun went down, we took a few more photos. In all I captured nearly 600 images or so in just 60 minutes.
We cannot wait to capture their wedding day - November 16, 2024 at The Thursday Club La Canada, CA
