Upon arriving to the wedding at the Thibodo Ranch House in Vista, CA, I took notice to the venue sitting on top of the hill in the park. I have not yet read up on the location but I will and report on the history of it here.
Emilee is the daughter of one of my clients that I shot back in April 2023. Lisa and her husband Dante have raised an amazing daughter and she has found her man. It has been a long long time since I have seen since passion in a couple getting married and certainly in a couple that has been together as long as these two have.

Venue is rather old and is in need of some upkeep, but I did happen to see the rates for this location. I don't think I have ever seen a venue that can beat the pricing that is available here. It is built like a cross. As you can see the photo above the one on the left was where the ladies got ready. The one on the right was a small area that was where they put the dessert table and what appeared to be a kitchen area passed that. In the middle is a large dance floor area and a huge fireplace. The other two wings consisted of a storage room and bathrooms. The back patio was where they had their taco chef set up. I will post his into below. If you are anywhere in Vista that they service, I can highly suggest their food.

Once I came in the venue, Dante and Lisa and others were there setting up. Friends had been there since 9am getting it ready for the couple. You don't see that very often. So I got to work shooting some of the details for them before others arrived. Once the bride and her pose showed up, they goto work.

Lisa, was feeling the pressure of the day as most brides do. She kept it fun and playful though and was laughing through it with the help of the bridal party. These girls are funny, even with their made up English accents.

Lisa held her flowers with bride and honor. Her father would be there in spirit only.

The flowers and the bride were beautiful.

Finally, Billy arrived with his guys. It was a rush to get their flowers on and everyone lined up. But it was clear, Billy was ready to get married.

Last minute check to make sure everyone was in place, it was time to get lined up for the ceremony.

Billy and his mom walked in first. Lisa and Dante waited behind until I gave them to okay to walk out next.

With everyone in place, Billy looked back for his bride to walk in.

And there she was walking in with her step father, Dante.

There ceremony location was a bit tricky. Okay, I will admit it was a test of my ability to get these two the best I could. There was no main aisle and a tree in the middle of the two sets of chairs. But I was able to get back far enough to see everyone up front.

So Billy went first with his vows. In 20 years, I don't think I have ever heard a better set. Billy knocked it out of the ballpark. A guest and I both looked at each other and said that Emilee could only do one thing and say "ditto". But she was a trooper and pulled out her typed vows. Despite some colorful words that were spoken, she did great. I'd say if I had to follow Billy's vows, I would have just gone and sat down. But she pulled it together and had everyone laughing.

You will notice the light flares and bokeh in the photos. These were from the tiny lights that were on the tree in the middle of the courtyard. I decided to use them to my advantage.

And once it was over and the kiss took place, Billy grabbed Emilee and gave her a kiss we will all remember.

It was time to party! Now I was not given any warning and I am glad I did not walk around the corner like I was planning to get them walking out, but Billy opted to fireman carry his wife out. Never seen that before.

Surrounded by amazing friends and family these two got a great start to their marriage. Come see the rest of the event.
Here is the details for the day
1150 Lupine Hills Dr.
Vista, CA
Thibodo Ranch House, located at 1150 Lupine Hills Drive in Vista, California, is a charming Spanish-style historic homestead nestled within the tranquil, tree-shaded 9.2-acre Thibodo Park. It serves as a versatile public event venue managed by the City of Vista, perfect for intimate gatherings like weddings, baby showers, birthday celebrations, and family reunions.
History
The site's history traces back to 1942, when the Thibodo family purchased the original Thibodo Ranch in the area that later developed into the Shadowridge neighborhood. Russell Thibodo and his wife Margie played key roles in preserving a piece of Vista's agricultural past. In later years, Russell sold much of the ranch land for residential developments and an industrial park, but the couple generously donated acreage along with the Spanish-style homestead to the City of Vista. This donation created the peaceful public space now known as Thibodo Park, with the Ranch House as its centerpiece. The Thibodos were recognized for their community contributions, including support for local organizations like the YMCA, 4-H Club, Vista Little League, and the Vista Foundation (which aids the Moonlight Amphitheater). They were inducted into the Vista Historical Society Hall of Fame in 1998.
The Ranch House itself evokes the region's ranching heritage, offering a blend of historic character and practical modern usability in a setting that feels worlds away from the surrounding suburban development.
Venue Experience and Review
As an event space, Thibodo Ranch House earns high marks for its affordability and flexibility. It's frequently praised as a "hidden gem" with a mix of indoor and outdoor areas that provide plenty of room for guests. Reviewers highlight its suitability for weddings, noting unbeatable pricing compared to other venues, along with scenic surroundings including a picturesque pond, paved walking trails, playground, basketball and pickleball/tennis courts, and green spaces ideal for photos or guest activities.
The Spanish-style architecture adds a warm, rustic elegance—think stucco walls, thoughtful detailing, and a homey atmosphere that feels personal rather than overly commercial. Limited parking is noted as a minor consideration for larger events, but the overall setting more than compensates with its natural beauty and birdwatching opportunities around the pond.
Whether you're hosting a small celebration or a milestone event, the venue delivers excellent value and a relaxed, community-oriented vibe. It's well-maintained by the city and easy to access for North County San Diego locals. If you're looking for an authentic slice of Vista history without breaking the bank, Thibodo Ranch House is highly recommended. It beautifully bridges the area's ranching roots with today's family-friendly recreation.
