Happy 4th of July, 2011

Everyone in Sierra Madre take their 4th of July Parade pretty seriously. This year was no exception. This little girl stole the day. In her red, white and blue dress and cute curly hair, the crowd took notice and smiled, laughed and sighed. Knott’s Berry Hotel - Buena Park, Ca

The Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel was a first for me. It’s always nice to shoot a wedding at a new location. From the outside there is not much to look at. From the screams at the pool to the scream from the roller coasters behind it was an interesting location for sure. On the inside it is much nicer than I expected. There is a beautiful staircase and a balcony to shoot down from as well as a very pretty outdoor area with gazebo and ample space for a few hundred guests.
The brightness of the outdoor area, being sandwiched between two glass towers, took some time to adjust too but as you can see above it came out beautifully. Jordan and Erika were also very happy. The reception room on the 9th floor was also very spacious. The food was delicious and the staff was very attentive from what I witnessed. On the opposite side of the floor there was another wedding going. I had to laugh when their guests began to crash the wedding since the bar on the other side was closed at a much earlier time than Jordon and Erika’s. I am not sure why it was allowed but I guess it is hard to tell who belongs and who does not at a wedding.

Overall rated 4/5 for Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel.

Bug Story

It is a lot of fun to go out and see the world in ways you never thought you could share. While taking my son down to a local park, I was able to capture this shot of a wasp. Next time I will try to shoot it fast enough to make the wings not blur. That will be something to post.

La Palapa - Long Beach, Ca

La Palapa was the location chosen by Ashleigh and Dave for their reception. With a beautiful beach front area for your ceremony and an extremely beautiful hall not far from it, this is without a doubt one of the best locations for a beach style wedding. The eatery below is also convenient for guests as they arrive or even for anyone else who needs a quick drink prior to the ceremony. The staff was helpful and saved the day on more than a few occasions. La Palapa’s reception area also has a smoking room which doubled for the room for the bride to get ready. Rich color adorn this hall and make for some amazing photos.
I did not get a chance to partake of the dinner, but from what I saw it looked very good. A cool breeze kept the hall quite nice, unlike many reception locations who struggle with AC issues most of the time.
Overall rated 4/5 for La Palapa.

This month our category is “Our Best Photo”. I hate these type of entries. I have so many thousands of photos and to call one the best is just too hard to do. So I have decided to take a favorite image from a wedding this year and use this.
